Retinopathy of retinal detachment after major vascular occlusions.

چکیده

RETINAL detachment or the appearance of retinal cysts after the occlusion of large retinal vessels has rarely been described in the literature, although Duke-Elder (1940) mentioned cystic degeneration as invariably following obstruction of the central retinal vein. Norn (1961) described a case of a central retinal cyst which followed a thrombosis of the central retinal vein. Arques (1960) reported a case of bilateral occlusion of the central retinal artery in which a bilateral retinal detachment subsequently developed. Four cases are reported here in which a large branch or a central venous thrombosis, associated with marked disturbances of the local artery, gave rise to the retinopathy of detachment. A hole formed in each case, with subsequent detachment in three of them.

Branch retinal vein occlusion.

Retinal vein occlusions (RVO) are the second commonest sight threatening vascular disorder. Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) are the two basic types of vein occlusion. Branch retinal vein occlusion is three times more common than central retinal vein occlusion and- second only to diabetic retinopathy as the most common retinal vascular cause of visu...

Serous retinal detachment after panretinal photocoagulation for proliferative diabetic retinopathy: a case report

BACKGROUND Proliferative diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of visual impairment in working-age adults worldwide. Panretinal photocoagulation is a cornerstone in its management; however, it may include a range of side effects and complications, one of these being serous retinal detachment. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of the use of intravitreal injection of bevacizu...

Novel Pharmacologic Approaches for the Management of Diabetic Retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss among working-age people in the United States. The hallmark of diabetic retinopathy is vascular compromise. Increased vascular permeability leads to the development of diabetic macular edema, which is the major cause of vision loss in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Vascular occlusion causes retinal ischemia and subsequent angiogenesi...

Retina-specific expression of PDGF-B versus PDGF-A: vascular versus nonvascular proliferative retinopathy.

PURPOSE Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) has been implicated in vascular proliferative retinopathies, such as diabetic retinopathy, and in nonvascular retinopathies, such as proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Traction retinal detachment is a central feature of both types of disease. Hemizygous rhodopsin promoter/PDGF-B (rho/PDGF-B) transgenic mice exhibit proliferation of vascular cells, gli...

Retinopathy of prematurity: understanding ischemic retinal vasculopathies at an extreme of life.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a major complication of preterm birth. It encompasses a spectrum of pathologies that affect vision, from mild disease that resolves spontaneously to severe disease that causes retinal detachment and subsequent blindness. The pathologies are characterized by an arrest in normal retinal vascular development associated with microvascular degeneration. The result...
